Celebrating National Volunteer Week

Published Tue 16 May 2023

This morning, Diving WA celebrated National Volunteers Week with fellow volunteers and the Minster of Sport and Recreation, Hon. David Templeman MLA, during SportWest's Volunteer Breakfast. This breakfast recognises and celebrates the vital part volunteers provide to Diving WA and the sports industry.

For every 3 participants in sport in WA we need at least 1 volunteer, with volunteers contributing 41.9 Million hours a year! This is the equivalent of 21,511 FTE Employees (SportWest).

National Volunteers Week (15-21 May) is Australia's largest annual celebration of volunteering, with the 2023 theme of The Change Makers.

Last year, Volunteering Australia (2022) conducted a report about the state of volunteering in Australia, which found that sport and recreation organisations were the most common type of organisation individuals volunteered for, with 25% of volunteers selecting this category. One of the respondents stated that “It has been a positive experience providing a service to the community, supporting a sporting organisation, and providing social interaction.”

At Diving WA, we are proud to support local volunteers who play a key role in our industry. Whether it is by helping out at diving events or assisting staff and coaches, our volunteers provide a level of commitment that is unparalleled. Thank you to all our past and current volunteers who have helped us along the way and have driven change in our industry.
