Kim Hynynen-Furler - Senior Coach

With more than two decades of experience across coaching and officiating, Kim Hynynen-Furler is one of Western Australia’s most knowledgeable and respected diving coaches. Since stepping into the sport in 2000 as both a coach and a judge, Kim has made an enduring impact on diver development in WA, bringing a calm, thoughtful presence and deep technical insight to every program she leads.

Kim began her coaching journey in 2000 and by 2003 had progressed to become the Head Coach of Arrows Diving. Over nearly a decade in the role, she guided athletes from their first steps in the sport through to state and national representation, building a strong foundation for many of WA’s emerging divers. Her leadership and technical expertise later saw her appointed as Diving WA’s Head Coach and Development Manager from 2016 to 2019, where she played a pivotal role in strengthening pathway structures, supporting coach development and contributing to the growth of diving across the state.

Today, Kim continues to coach across multiple Diving WA squads and programs, working with athletes ranging from enthusiastic beginners to National Age and Senior (formerly Open) competitors. Her influence extends internationally, supporting athletes to achieve standout success across consecutive World Masters Championships at Fukuoka 2023, Doha 2024 and Singapore 2025. These achievements highlight Kim’s exceptional capacity to guide divers at every stage of their journey, from grassroots participation through to high-performing international Masters athletes.

Kim’s coaching style is grounded in clarity, patience and technical precision. Athletes value her thoughtful, methodical approach, her ability to break down complex skills, and her commitment to building confidence at every level of development. Her rare combination of coaching acumen and extensive international judging experience provides athletes with a unique understanding of what the sport demands both in performance and through the eyes of officials.

Kim’s longstanding contribution, deep technical knowledge and passion for athlete development make her an invaluable member of the Diving WA coaching team. Her legacy continues to grow through the pathways she has shaped, the officials she has mentored, and the athletes she continues to inspire.
